Join us as we hear from experts and build on the work for the publication Harvesting Opportunity: The Power of Regional Food System Investments to Transform Communities. The Federal Reserve Board of Governors, the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture released the book, which highlights models for collaboration between policymakers, practitioners and the financial community. It also discusses how addressing research, policy and resource gaps could contribute to the success of regional food systems strategies.
Speakers—including some of the book’s authors—will discuss how communities can use food systems to advance economic opportunities. Giving the keynote address will be Will Allen, a farmer and the founder and CEO of Growing Power Inc. Recipient of a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship (“genius” award) and one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world in 2010 (in the “Heroes” category), Allen is transforming the cultivation, production and delivery of healthy foods to underserved urban populations through an innovative combination of low-cost farming technologies.
Participation in this event is free; however, registration is required by Monday, Nov. 27, as space is limited. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
